I find it really telling and honestly interesting that so many people in wrestling right now are all exploring "what wrestling can be", while also feeling like something has changed... or needs to change.
So where are we? Are we at the edge, or is there still room to push forward? And more importantly should we? At what point does chasing
"evolution" start to come at the cost of safety, longevity, and the integrity of the craft?
Those are real questions.
Because here's the truth to me at least: independent wrestling, the space that once gave us creativity, individuality, and freedom, now feels like it's slipping away. With the rise of major promotions and their ability to secure talent, the room to create has gotten smaller. More and more, it feels like there's only one way to pertorm, and only one way to fit in.
And when that happens, authenticity starts to feel forced. Passion starts to feel like something you have to show instead of something you truly live and feel. The creative, the artist, the dreamer, they get pushed to the side chasing opportunity or a paycheck.
Don't get me wrong, money matters. It should.
But when it becomes the main focus, the art suffers. And right now, the balance feels off. The independent wrestling ecosystem isn't where it should be, and it hasn't been for a long time.
But I don't think it's too far gone. If anything, this feels like the moment to reset. To bring back space for different styles, real expression, and true passion. Wrestling can still grow without losing what made it special. This is what I felt when I heard about Bloodsport.
Something needs to change, and I believe the people who truly care about this craft are the ones who will make that happen. Keep going!
